THE CITY OF ST. CLAIRSVILLE WINS 2007 COMPETITION IN 5,001 - 10,000 POPULATION CATEGORY FOR AMERICA IN BLOOM...

Press Release dated September 29, 2007 from AMERICA IN BLOOM!

"Their bikeway is wonderful. I've never really seen anything like it. The innovation and creativity is boundless", commented America In Bloom Judge Jack Clasen in regard to St. Clairsville's National Road Bikeway. That comment at a judges' breakfast foretold good things to come for the east Ohio City.

St. Clairsville has won the national America In Bloom (AIB) competition in the 5,001-10,000 population category.

The award was presented to the community at the AIB annual Symposium held this year in Rockford, Illinois before an audience of 300 representing cities across the country. St. Clairsville was represented by Council Member and Downtown Revitalization Task Force Chair, Ginny Favede, Tom Murphy and Dennis Bigler, both of whom are city officials.

Bigler said that over 35 Ohio cities have competed in AIB. They are commonly viewed as the most progressive small towns in Ohio. Representatives of communities in 30 states competed in this year's competition.

Bigler told the audience, as colorful photos of city landmarks flashed on two screens above the stage, that although this is their first year of AIB entry, this is an important milestone in the City's twenty years of work on livability issues.
